A Bathing Ape, the Tokyo label founded by Nigo in 1993, built its identity on a camouflage print, and this collaboration puts that print straight onto the UltraBoost's Primeknit upper. The pattern covers the knit rather than being applied as a separate panel, so the camo follows the shoe's curves. A black-coated Boost midsole grounds it, and the shoe sold at $250, seventy dollars above a general release UltraBoost of the same period.
The pair launched on February 2, 2019 inside a larger adidas and BAPE footwear and apparel collection built around the Super Bowl, which was played the following day. Underneath the graphics the shoe is a standard 4.0, the generation that replaced the hard plastic arch cage with a stitched three-stripe panel while keeping the full-length Boost midsole. Camouflage on a knit upper is a difficult print to execute, since the pattern distorts wherever the fabric stretches.
