Adicolor began in 1983 as a promotion rather than a product line: adidas sold plain white trainers together with marker pens and invited buyers to colour them in themselves. The idea was revived in the middle of the 2000s and expanded enormously. A White Series shipped with spare laces, pens, lace jewels and iron-on badges (one lace set printed with a line from Leonardo da Vinci about starting from a fresh white ground), and around it adidas built a set of colour series, each handed to different artists, studios and licence holders. Short films were commissioned for every colour. Character tie-ins ran from Kermit the Frog to Muhammad Ali, and designers including Jeremy Scott produced pairs inside the programme. The naming follows that structure: a letter for the series and a number for the pair within it. This one is a high top, black with metallic silver and a warm violet accent, a darker read than the line's usual primary blocks, and closer to the artist-made colour entries than to the customisable white originals that started the whole thing.
