A weightlifting shoe solves an ankle problem. Squatting deep requires the shin to travel forward over the foot, and most lifters run out of ankle range before they run out of leg strength; raising the heel on a rigid wedge buys that range back and keeps the torso upright under load. adidas built the original Adipower around the 2012 London Olympics, and the second version keeps the reasoning intact: a heel of roughly twenty millimetres in hard TPU, a flat wide base, a woven upper, and a strap across the laces so the foot cannot slide forward when the bar gets heavy. Everything a running shoe is designed to do (compress, cushion, return energy) is exactly what this must not do, because foam under a loaded bar is movement lost and stability given away. A white upper is an unusual choice for a platform, and a common one.
