Track spikes and road racers diverged sharply once super-foams arrived, and the Prime SP 2 shows how adidas answered on the oval. Where a marathon shoe stacks foam high, a sprint spike keeps the platform thin and rigid: here a plate combining carbon and nylon sits under the forefoot, with Lightstrike Pro (the foam adidas uses in its Adizero road racers) layered above it to return energy without adding height.
The upper is engineered mesh, minimally padded, and the shoe weighs roughly 183 grams in a sample size, light enough that reviewers noted adidas had little left to trim for the following SP 3. It is built for the short events, covering 60 through 400 metres and the hurdles, where ground contact is brief and the plate matters more than the cushioning.
