Most NMD_R1 pairs run a single-colour Boost midsole, so the two-tone treatment is the point of this one. The foam is split into two shades, a darker grey grading against black, which gives the sole a layered look without adding any parts. A reflective EVA insert is set into it and catches light at night in a way the standard moulded plugs never do.
Above, the upper is one piece of Core Black Primeknit with the Three Stripes built into the stitch pattern rather than applied on top. A moulded heel clip stiffens the back of the shoe and a TPU cage runs through the eyelets, both in matching black, so the structure is visible as shine rather than colour. Text branding sits on the pull tab. At $170 on July 8, 2019 this was priced well above the $130 mesh version of the same period, with the Primeknit upper, the reflective insert and the split midsole accounting for the gap. A durable rubber outsole sits beneath the whole thing.
