The R2 is the second-generation NMD, narrower through the waist than the R1, built as a one-piece bootie and given a reshaped midsole plug that references older adidas running tooling more directly. This Summer edition is the hot-weather build: the knit combines cool-touch yarn with Outlast, a phase-change fibre developed to absorb and release heat as foot temperature rises and falls, so the upper is doing thermal work rather than simply breathing.
Crystal White covers almost all of it, broken by nubuck sections that add a matte, slightly fuzzy texture against the smooth knit, and by orange and green hits on the tooling that keep the shoe from disappearing into plain white. The Boost midsole carries the redesigned moulded plug rather than the separate EVA inserts of the R1, which is the quickest way to tell the two models apart at a glance. It released May 10, 2018 at $130. The rubber outsole is left in a matching pale finish, and the pull tab at the heel is the only place branding appears in text.
