Boost is not foam in the usual sense. adidas introduced the material in 2013 as thousands of expanded thermoplastic pellets fused into a solid block, a construction that looks like packing material and behaves nothing like the EVA the industry had used for decades. The Ultraboost put a full slab of it underfoot in 2015 and became the brand's defining product of the era. All Terrain is the winterised branch of that shoe: a raised collar, a treated upper meant to shed water, and a more aggressive outsole for ground the road version would skid across. Grey running through the Boost midsole is the detail worth noticing. adidas almost always left that layer white, since the pellet structure was the visible proof of what a buyer was paying for, so darkening it is a decision to let the technology disappear into the shoe.
