Black leather pressed with a reptile grain, white on the toe cap and sole, nothing else. This one landed at the peak of the model's modern run: adidas moved more than 15 million pairs of the Superstar in 2015, making it the brand's best selling shoe of that year, and the women's line was carrying much of that volume.
The shoe being restated here dates to 1969, developed at adidas under Horst Dassler as a low-top version of the Pro Model. It was the first low-top basketball shoe with an all-leather upper, and the moulded rubber shell toe existed to stop players wearing through the front. Within four years it was on more than three quarters of NBA players. The embossing is the only departure from that template, and it raises the price: $130 against the $100 a plain leather pair was asking.
