Yohji Yamamoto has designed for adidas under the Y-3 name since the line debuted in 2003, and the label's approach to a heritage silhouette is usually to strip it rather than decorate it. This Gazelle follows that: black across the upper, black again on the trim, with a single Light Brown accent as the only departure from a fully dark shoe. There is no contrast striping, no metallic branding and no colour anywhere to date the pair to a season.
The $300 price is triple what adidas charges for a general-release suede Gazelle, and on a Y-3 product that difference normally sits in materials and construction rather than in graphics. A tonal black shoe leaves nothing to hide behind, so the finish, the edges and the way the panels meet are all on display. The brown accent is the one element that gives the eye a reference point and stops the whole thing from flattening into a silhouette, which is a very Y-3 way to solve that problem.
