The Orisan was a new silhouette rather than a reworked one, unveiled for Y-3's Spring/Summer 2020 season. Its defining feature is the rear of the shoe: an elongated, sculpted heel with a leather backstay, a long pull tab and a debossed heel piece sitting over a Boost midsole.
The upper is semi-translucent batted mesh, which on the launch colourways let the layers underneath show through and made the construction part of the design. Branding sits on a neoprene tongue rather than on the quarter panels.
Rendered entirely in black, as here in spring 2021, that transparency stops functioning. The mesh still lets light through but there is nothing tonal underneath for it to reveal, so the shoe collapses into a single dark outline and the heel shape carries the whole silhouette. Y-3 priced the Orisan at the top of its runner range from the start, and this version held that position.
