Alexander Wang's fourth adidas Originals collection landed for Fall/Winter 2018 and was organised around a single conceit: everything looked as though it had been through a photocopier. Logos were reversed or turned upside down, prints were skewed, and seams were left deliberately rough, as if each piece were a degraded copy of an adidas original rather than the thing itself.
The Puff Trainer is the footwear expression of that. Its upper is quilted into padded panels joined to a sock-like inner construction, so the shoe reads as a down jacket built for the foot. Burgundy suede at the heel breaks up the black, and the lacing runs down past the midsole and wraps around the back of the shoe, borrowing the bulky sole treatment used on the collection's Turnout Trainer.
The first drop went out in November 2018 through Wang's own stores, selected adidas locations and both labels' websites. Seven shoes were in that winter run, and the Puff pushed the joke furthest.
