Stella McCartney has worked with adidas since 2004, and the partnership's defining constraint is that her label uses no leather, fur or animal-derived glue, which on a sportswear line means every material has to be re-sourced rather than swapped out at the last step. The range leans on recycled content, water-free dyeing and low-waste construction as a result. This is the sandal reading of the UltraBoost: the knitted upper is cut away into straps across the forefoot and around the heel, leaving the Boost midsole exposed and carrying the shoe. Removing most of the upper from a design sold largely on the comfort of its foam is a fairly logical move, and it produces something closer to a sports slide than to a running shoe, with the knit still doing the fitting work where it remains. This version is black throughout with a metallic accent, released in the summer of 2021.
