The Yeezy Season collections were sold as clothing rather than as sneakers, and the footwear followed the same logic: boots, not trainers, cut in muted earth tones and shown as part of full looks. Season 5, presented in early 2017, made the military boot its central shoe. This is the camouflage version, which was a first for the line: the print covers the entire upper rather than appearing as an accent, over a thick tan rubber outsole with a deep tread and matching tan laces. Everything about the proportions is exaggerated (the sole heavier than the boot needs, the shaft cut wider than a service boot would be), which is consistent with how the whole collection treated workwear and military references as silhouettes to inflate rather than as function to reproduce. It went on sale in the summer of 2017 at a price closer to designer footwear than to anything from the sportswear partnership running alongside it.
