ASICS put the DynaBlast on sale in August 2020, following the NovaBlast into a range the brand had begun building around bounce rather than plushness. The pitch was simple: the same Blast idea in a lighter, less expensive package, for runners who wanted a daily trainer with some spring in it.
The mechanism is the midsole. FlyteFoam Blast fills it, and the outsole underneath is cut away in sections so the foam can deflect and recover instead of being held flat by a continuous rubber slab. Above it, ASICS used a knit upper, chosen over stitched or welded overlays to keep weight down and the fit close to the foot, which is why the shoe wears more like a sock than a structured trainer.
FlyteFoam had arrived in 2016 in the DynaFlyte and became the platform ASICS built most of its modern cushioning on; the Blast versions pushed it toward energy return. This pair keeps the visual noise low, with a muted grey upper and a paler grey through the midsole and lining.
