The Ride series is ASICS's answer to a question that has little to do with cushioning: how much energy a runner spends bending the ankle. The brand's Institute of Sport Science identified that joint as a major site of loss over long efforts and answered it with GUIDESOLE, a precision-curved sole with a stiffened forefoot that rocks the foot through the stride rather than asking it to flex.
That geometry first appeared in the MetaRide and GlideRide in 2019 and reached the more affordable EvoRide in February 2020. The Speed branch pushes the same shape toward faster running: a lighter build, a thinner upper, and FlyteFoam Blast in the midsole in place of the softer foams used on the easy-day models, trading some plushness for rebound.
The result is a shoe for tempo days and shorter, harder efforts, where the rocker does the most work. This one is deliberately unadorned: black mesh over a white midsole, with the upswept toe of the GUIDESOLE the only thing announcing what it is.
