The BONDI was a triathlon shoe ASICS sold in 1998, built for the part of a race where an athlete runs out of the water and into their shoes without much ceremony. The GEL-BND revives its silhouette for the brand's sportstyle line, keeping the layered panel construction and the wide, blocky midsole while rebuilding the guts for casual wear: moulded EVA underfoot, a thermoplastic rubber heel counter to hold the rear of the foot, and a GEL unit in the heel.
That kind of reissue has become a large part of the company's non-performance business. Late-1990s and early-2000s running models (chunky, heavily panelled, visibly technical) read as fashion two decades on, and ASICS has leaned on its own archive rather than inventing new lifestyle shapes.
An all-white make-up strips the model back to its lines, which is the point: with no colour blocking to read, what shows is the panel geometry and the sculpted heel. It is the least forgiving way to present the shoe, and the clearest.
