The Gel-Kayano 5 arrived at the end of the 1990s, six years into a line that began in 1993 when Toshikazu Kayano designed a support shoe modelled on the stag beetle's shell. By the fifth version the series had settled into its role as the brand's flagship stability trainer, and the layered synthetic panelling and visible Gel of that era became the look that later sportstyle reissues would trade on.
This 360 version is one of those reissues, rebuilt for wear rather than mileage. The upper moves to leather, layered in panels with the logo stripes cut through them, and the heel keeps the cutout detailing of the original. Insignia is embroidered at the tongue and heel. Underneath, Gel wraps the full circumference of the midsole rather than sitting in discrete heel and forefoot units, and a Trusstic shank in the outsole controls twist.
All-white leaves the construction to carry the shoe, which is the point of a retro built on a running silhouette this busy. It released in the middle of June 2019.
