The 4E designation here is the widest men's build Asics makes, cut broader through the forefoot and midfoot on the same platform rather than simply sized up, which matters more on a heavily cushioned shoe than on a minimal one; a wide foot perched on a narrow, tall midsole is unstable in a way a flat shoe never is. The twenty-fourth Nimbus was a significant year for the model. Asics moved it onto a newer foam the company rates as lighter, softer and bouncier than the previous compound, taking around twenty grams off the shoe while making the ride plusher, and reworked the upper, midsole and outsole together. The line has run since the 1990s as the brand's maximum-cushioning road shoe. This version is black throughout with reflective detailing, released in early 2022.
