ASICS announced the Earth Day collection in mid-April 2021 as its broadest sustainability push across running, court and lifestyle categories at once. The company said the shoes and apparel absorbed roughly five tons of reclaimed textile waste, an amount it compared to about 25,000 discarded t-shirts, through a circular manufacturing approach.
Two changes did most of the work. Recycled polyester replaced virgin material in the uppers, with the tennis models required to hit at least 40 percent recycled content in the base mesh. Separately, the socklining used solution dyeing, which adds pigment during fibre production rather than dyeing finished fabric; ASICS put the saving at roughly 45 percent less carbon and about a third less water than conventional dyeing.
The Gel-Resolution 8 was one of the models singled out at launch, alongside the Gel-Nimbus 23, GlideRide 2 and Tarther Blast. Its cream and putty palette was a deliberate break from the saturated blues and yellows the line usually wears, reading closer to undyed material than to a court shoe. Nothing underneath was softened for the sake of the story: the Flexion Fit upper and Gel cushioning stayed, which matters on a shoe built to survive hard-court abrasion.
