The eighth Gel-Resolution was the first in the line to use FlyteFoam, the reinforced-fibre foam ASICS had been rolling out across its running range, which gave a shoe built around stability some genuine responsiveness for the first time.
The upper is where the rest of the work went. Flexion Fit uses a no-sew polyurethane vamp for protection through hard lateral movement without stiffening the shoe or adding weight, and DYNAWALL panels sit at the midfoot to resist the sideways collapse that comes with sliding into a wide ball. ASICS developed the shoe with input from Gaël Monfils, whose defensive court coverage puts unusual demands on the midfoot and on the toe drag that wears through most tennis shoes first.
The result was aimed squarely at the baseline player grinding out long rallies rather than the serve-and-volley game, and it stayed in the range long enough to appear in a wide spread of seasonal colorways.
Velvet pine gives this pair a dark green upper against a white midsole and outsole. It released toward the end of June 2022.
