ASICS launched the GLIDERIDE in September 2019 as the flagship of what it called its Energy Saving Series. The idea behind GUIDESOLE is narrow and mechanical: the ankle joint is where a runner burns a disproportionate share of energy, so the midsole is curved to reduce how much it has to flex, letting the foot roll through the stride instead of levering over the toes.
The second version, launched on 5 February 2021 alongside the EVORIDE 2, refined that geometry rather than replacing it. ASICS widened the midfoot base and reduced the cutouts under the sole for smoother heel-to-toe transitions, tuned the foam density differently for men's and women's shoes, and fitted a newly engineered 3D-printed mesh upper. It listed at $150.
This pair sits in the sustainability-themed release around Earth Day that year, its cream and putty palette deliberately undyed-looking against the bright colourways the model usually wore.
