The GLIDERIDE reached shops in September 2019 carrying an argument rather than just a foam. ASICS had identified the ankle as the joint where distance runners spend the most energy, and built GUIDESOLE around reducing how far it has to move: the midsole rocks upward toward the toe so the foot pivots over the curve instead of bending at the forefoot. The stiffer the sole and the earlier the curve begins, the less work the calf and ankle do per stride.
What separates the GLIDERIDE from the EVORIDE and the METARACER that shared the concept is how much shoe is underneath. It uses a less extreme curve and considerably more cushioning than the concept shoes that preceded it, which makes it a long-run trainer rather than a race-day tool.
This version carries Tokyo naming over a black FlyteFoam platform with red used sparingly on the branding and sole trim.
