Racing flats have largely been priced out of the sport. Carbon plates and superfoams pushed the top of the market past two hundred and fifty dollars, and the traditional lightweight racer (thin, firm, fast, cheap) mostly disappeared with them. The Hyper Speed is Asics keeping one in the line. There is no plate and very little stack; it is a minimal shoe for track sessions and races from the mile up to roughly ten kilometres, and reviewers who have run in it are consistent that it feels snappy despite carrying none of the technology that word usually implies. It costs about a third of what a plated racer does. Nobody recommends it for a marathon, which is not what it is for. This version runs white with a sunrise red accent and arrived at the end of 2023, sitting below the brand's plated racing shoes as the shoe you actually do the intervals in.
