ASICS launched the MAGIC SPEED on 2 April 2021 as the accessible end of its Energy Saving Series, taking technology developed for the METARACER the previous year and putting it into a shoe at $150. The combination it introduced has defined the line since: GUIDESOLE geometry, which curves the sole so the ankle flexes less through the stride, working alongside a carbon plate that adds structure and helps the foot roll forward at toe-off.
The rest is built for mileage rather than a single race. FF Blast foam handles landings with a reasonably energetic return, and AHAR rubber covers the outsole for durability that racing shoes usually sacrifice. The point of the shoe is to give a runner the plated sensation on repeat (in workouts, in long runs and on race day) without the price or the fragility of a top-tier racer.
