The Novablast arrived in early 2020 as the shoe that gave ASICS a bouncy trainer, built on a tall FlyteFoam Blast midsole and an outsole the brand described in trampoline terms. By the third version the foam had changed to FF Blast Plus (softer, lighter and springier), the platform had widened for stability, and a millimetre had been added at both ends while keeping the eight-millimetre drop. The Platinum treatment on top is the brand's premium trim: metallic heel counter, reflective detailing, flat white laces and a special sockliner, applied to models across the range rather than sold as a shoe of its own. Black with white is the least showy way to buy it and arguably the most sensible; the metallic and reflective elements read clearly against a dark upper, and the engineered mesh built largely from recycled material holds its shape better in a plain finish than a busy one.
