ASICS has run the Trabuco name on trail shoes for years, but the Max branch chases something different from its siblings: maximum cushioning rather than technical control. The second version, dated 15 February 2023, keeps that brief intact.
The midsole is FF Blast+, the same EVA-based foam ASICS puts in its premium road trainers, which gives the shoe a soft and bouncy feel unusual for off-road use. Measured stack comes in around 39.7mm at the heel and 31.2mm at the forefoot; ASICS' own published figures are higher, at 43mm and 38mm, a gap worth knowing about if you compare specifications across brands.
Underneath, an ASICSGRIP outsole carries 4.2mm lugs in a three-pronged and chevron pattern, deep enough for mud but spaced to work on gravel and hardpack as well. Weight lands near 10.3 ounces, light for a shoe carrying this much foam. The trade-off is the familiar one for the category: comfort over long distances in exchange for less ground feel on technical terrain.
Black with Golden Yellow is the higher-contrast of this pair's two colours, released ahead of the Deep Ocean version that followed later in the spring at the same price.
