ASICS built its Guidesole family around a single idea: a curved, stiffened sole that rolls the foot forward so the ankle does less work. Three shoes carried it: MetaRide at the top, GlideRide in the middle, and EvoRide as the lightest and cheapest of the set.
The second EvoRide, dated 17 March 2021, is a modest but real update. ASICS added about two millimetres of FlyteFoam, softening the ride while cutting weight to roughly 8.5 ounces, widened the base for stability, and reworked the outsole for smoother transitions. The drop stays low at 5mm. The midsole is single-density FlyteFoam rather than a stacked pairing: a deliberate choice, since a foot sinking into soft foam loses the benefit of the rocker above it.
That geometry has a consequence worth knowing before buying. The shoe rewards steady and quick paces, where the forward roll does its work, and feels awkward on genuinely easy recovery runs, where the same roll pushes you along faster than you meant to go. It is best understood as an uptempo daily trainer rather than a do-everything shoe.
