The Kayano 28 is the last of the old stability formula. Dynamic DuoMax (a firmer wedge of foam under the inside of the heel, running into the midfoot to stop the ankle rolling inward) was still there, a year before the 29 replaced it with LiteTruss and did away with the plastic Trusstic element too. What did change was softness: FlyteFoam Blast took over from FlyteFoam Propel in the midfoot, giving the shoe more give than the line had traditionally allowed. Reviewers read it as a shift toward comfort inside a shoe whose reputation was built on structure. The model dates to 1993, when designer Toshikazu Kayano modelled its supportive heel on the exoskeleton of a stag beetle. This is the wide build, in Piedmont Grey with deep plum: a soft grey and a muted purple, entirely in keeping with how it has always presented itself.
