At the bottom of the ASICS price list the Jolt is the least expensive running shoe the brand sells, and everything about it follows from that. The midsole is EVA doing all the cushioning work on its own (no GEL unit, no FlyteFoam, no support structure) under a mesh upper with synthetic overlays and a rubber outsole with multidirectional lugs concentrated where the wear happens. Price trackers routinely place it in the cheapest tenth of the running market. Reviewers treat it as a base piece of equipment rather than a shoe to be compared against others: fine for short and moderate distances, out of its depth beyond that, and the shoe a great many people buying their first pair actually walk out with. Black on black is the version that sells most, because at this price the shoe is rarely doing only one job: trainer, gym shoe and work shoe at once.
