Noosa is a beach town on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, and since 1983 it has hosted a triathlon that grew from a single race into a multi-day festival. ASICS named a shoe after it, and the name still explains the design.
Almost every feature answers a triathlon problem. The upper is open enough to run in without socks, because a competitor coming off the bike has no time to deal with them. Toggle laces pull tight in one movement and a heel tab gives something to haul against, both of which exist to shorten a transition. AHAR+ rubber goes on the outsole because the shoe has to corner hard on wet road. Underneath, FlyteFoam keeps the weight down; the 14 sits around 7.6 ounces in a men’s nine.
The graphics are their own tradition. ASICS has drawn the Noosa’s loud prints from the early GEL-Noosa styles of the 2000s, and the Tropical series continues that. This is the dark reading of it: black upper and pure silver trim, with the print showing in the detail rather than the base colour.
