The Tarther name belongs to the Japanese side of the ASICS catalogue, a racing line the brand traces back to the marathon shoes its runners wore through the 1980s. Those shoes were thin, firm and built to be felt through, and the family has kept that character even as the materials changed.
The RP 3 is the version meant to survive training rather than a single race. FF Blast foam gives the midsole more life than a traditional flat would, but the shoe is still low and firm, and the Propulsion Trusstic unit under the arch is shaped to direct force forward off the toe instead of letting the midsole flex sideways. The outsole combines ASICSGRIP rubber with the brand's tetra-shaped tread pattern, which is about holding the road under a hard push rather than about mileage.
