ASICS has been a Kobe company since 1949, when Kihachiro Onitsuka started making basketball shoes there; the present name dates to a 1977 merger and abbreviates a Latin phrase the company translates as a sound mind in a sound body. Its research arm in Japan does the engineering work behind the cushioning systems, and the crossed stripes on the side of the shoe are the visual signature it has carried since the Onitsuka Tiger years.
Kiko Kostadinov is a long way from that lineage. Born in Bulgaria in 1989, he moved to London at sixteen, studied fashion design and then took a master's at Central Saint Martins, and built a label around workwear and uniform shapes. ASICS made footwear for his spring/summer 2018 collection, and the relationship has run continuously since, eventually formalised under a separate name in 2023.
The Levitrack was reportedly two years in development and shares its tooling with nothing else in the range: a chunky moulded structure combining the brand's Blast foam with a reworked Gel unit. This colorway coats the mesh upper in black, outlines the metallic silver stripes in yellow, and released on 20 July 2021 at $280.
