Converse brought the Chuck 70 back in 2013 because the shoe people wanted was not the one in stores. Pairs from the 1960s and 1970s had heavier canvas, a thicker and higher rubber midsole, a smaller toe cap with extra material behind it for reinforcement, and a bottom unit moulded in one piece rather than three. The modern All Star had lost all of it, along with the black heel license plate, which had turned white.
The reissue restored those details and added one the originals never had: a thick OrthoLite footbed, which is why a 70 is comfortable in a way vintage pairs are not. A plain black high-top with ivory foxing is where that work is easiest to judge, because there is no print to look at instead. This one sold for 80 dollars on 26 November 2018, and the circular ankle patch is stitched into the canvas rather than printed on top of it, another detail the standard model gave up.
