University Gold is one of the loudest shades in the Converse palette, a warm yellow with enough orange in it to stay clear of mustard. On a low-cut Chuck 70 there is very little upper to break it up, so the colour carries the whole shoe, with only the toe cap, foxing stripe and midsole in Egret off-white to interrupt it.
The 70 designation refers to the era the build copies. In 2013 Converse reintroduced the heavier All Star construction used around 1970, which meant thicker canvas, a rubber foxing stripe raised further up the sidewall, a single-piece bottom sole and decorative stitching near the toe. The modern concession is an OrthoLite insole, cushioning that the original never had. The rubber is tinted cream to mimic aged vintage rubber.
