Taking the laces off a Chuck is a bigger change than it sounds. The eyelets and the lacing are what hold the canvas against the foot, so the Slip replaces them with elastic gore panels at the throat and a cleaner upper with no eyestay stitching. What is left is the outline of the low-top All Star with its front half smoothed out.
Black canvas is the right choice for it, because the absence of lacing draws the eye to the shape and a busy colour would fight that. The white rubber toe cap, foxing stripe and outsole stay exactly where they always are, and the circular patch keeps its place on the medial side. The trade is convenience against fit adjustment: nothing to tie, but also nothing to tighten. The list price was $65.
