Jonathan Anderson's Converse work has leaned on surface rather than shape. An earlier run covered the same shoe in glitter; this one, a four-piece Toy capsule of two lows and two highs, arrived on 19 July 2018. The stated reference was Ron Nagle's ceramic sculpture, small abstract objects finished to a hard gloss, and the translation was literal. Where a Chuck 70 normally uses heavy cotton canvas, the Toy shoes use patent uppers that read wet under light.
The kumquat high-top is the warm one in the set, an orange and red gradient across the quarter with a pale blue midsole beneath it and white hardware at the eyelets. Laces are fuzzy rather than flat, a texture Anderson tied to the painted stucco houses of San Francisco, and the rubber sole carries its own colour instead of the usual cream. The platform stays standard: foxing running high on the sidewall, a one-piece rubber outsole and an OrthoLite footbed. Highs ran 150 dollars, lows 140.
