Army green fading into black, an orange rubber sole and black eyelets: the colour logic in this capsule is that nothing matches by default. Each of the four shoes assigns its own colour to the midsole, the outsole and the hardware, so the parts a normal Chuck leaves cream or silver become decisions instead of defaults.
The material change matters as much. A Chuck 70 is a cotton canvas shoe; these are patent, which puts a wet, plasticky gloss where the weave normally sits and makes the gradient possible in the first place. The laces run fuzzy rather than flat, a texture that works against the shine instead of with it. Everything below the upper is stock: a taller glossy midsole with the foxing tape climbing high, a one-piece rubber outsole under the diamond tread, and a thick OrthoLite footbed. The capsule went on sale 19 July 2018, with high-tops at 150 dollars and low-tops at 140.
