This is the version of the 574 that leaves the ground. Unveiled in 2017, the Sport sits higher at the ankle on a bootie construction, so the collar wraps the foot the way a sock does instead of opening onto a padded tongue. The upper mixes premium suede with mesh and runs green across most of it, with white breaking at the sole and grey rubber underneath. What it keeps from the retro shoe is the outline and the sidewall N; very little else carries across.
The midsole is the real departure. Instead of the ENCAP heel, a hard polyurethane rim around a soft EVA core, the Sport rides on Fresh Foam moulded as a single piece from heel to toe. That produces a more uniform ride and a cleaner sidewall, since no second material rings the back of the shoe. New Balance listed it at $110, above the retro model's usual price, and the difference sits in the tooling. The two shoes are related by name and by proportion rather than by parts, and anyone expecting the older runner's firmness will find something quite different here.
