New Balance spent the early 2020s pulling forgotten models out of its own archive, and this one comes from a 1980s tennis shoe. It keeps the court proportions (a curved rubber toecap, an exposed nylon tongue, a low profile) and inflates the parts that read as period detail, most obviously the N on the sides, which is scaled up and set in a contrasting tone so it dominates the panel. Leather and synthetic panels make up the upper, over a platform midsole and a thick rubber outsole, with a padded collar and tongue handling comfort. At ninety dollars it sits well below the brand's made-in-USA lines, which is much of the reason the model spread as widely as it did. This version pairs a moonbeam off-white with a natural indigo blue, released in the autumn of 2022, one of the quieter colourways in a range that has since gone in far brighter directions.
