Every Air Max before it was a running shoe first. The 270, released in 2018, was not: Nike designed its Air unit specifically for walking and standing, which meant the bag could be taller and softer than anything a runner would tolerate. At 32mm it is the tallest heel unit in the line, wrapping 270 degrees around the back of the shoe, and Dylan Raasch built the shape around references to the Air Max 93 and the Air Max 180.
That honesty about purpose is what made the model work. It does not pretend to be a performance shoe, so the upper can be a soft sock-like construction and the midsole can prioritise height and cushioning over stability.
This Flyknit version splits the upper front to back, fuchsia across the forefoot and deep royal through the heel, with a black Swoosh on the outside and Air branding in teal on the inside. A fuchsia leather panel covers the heel down to the white midsole, and the Air unit itself is moulded in translucent teal, so the colour carries through the sole as well as the upper.
