KAWS worked with Nike Sportswear through OriginalFake, the label he ran at the time, and the result was a two-shoe Air Max 90 release rather than a single pair: a white version and a darker Air Max 90 Current built on a different sole unit. Both leaned on the same visual device: volt as the accent colour running through laces and detailing, with OriginalFake's XX marks applied where branding would normally sit. Distribution was tightly controlled and quantities were small, sold through a handful of Nike Sportswear locations rather than at any scale. The pairing has proved durable as a reference point; Nike later produced general-release Air Max 90s in black and volt that were widely read as nods back to it. White with volt is the brighter and cleaner of the two originals.
