Giraffe is one of three shoes in atmos's Animal 3.0 series from July 2019, and this Air Max 1 DLX released on July 20, 2019 at $230. The overlays are cut from pony hair printed with a giraffe pattern, the official colourway lists Multi-Color with Lucky Green and white, and the green shows up on the tongue tab and the outsole. Contrast Swooshes sit across the midfoot, so the shoe reads as loud from every angle rather than just up close.
atmos was founded in Tokyo in 2000 by Hidefumi Hommyo, with Hirofumi Kojima as creative director, and its Air Max 1s are the model's most celebrated collaborations. The 2007 Elephant pair borrowed the print from Tinker Hatfield's Air Jordan 3 and came back in 2017 after winning a Nike fan vote; 2018 brought the stacked-shoebox 'We Love Nike'; and Animal 3.0 in 2019 extended the boutique's animal-print theme with giraffe. Pony hair in place of the usual synthetics accounts for the premium over an in-line pair. For anyone following the atmos run, it is the most literal animal pair of the lot: the giraffe is not an accent but the whole surface of the overlays.
