Hirofumi Kojima, creative director at atmos, built this Air Max 90 around a camouflage print and a deliberate nod to the model's 1990 original. Duck camo covers the upper panels, black suede takes the overlays, a snake-textured Swoosh sits across the side, and Infrared lands on the plastic heel panels where the original put its accent. That Infrared placement is the tell. The 1990 shoe used a bright red at the heel and sole specifically to exaggerate the depth of the visible Air unit, and Kojima kept it while changing almost everything around it, so the pair reads as a tribute rather than a redesign.
It released on 5 October 2013 at $170, and it went on to become one of the most influential Air Max 90 colourways of the decade. Nike later built a reversed version and applied the same camo idea to the Air Max 2090, both pointing back to this pair. It is also the shoe that made atmos a fixture in conversations about Air Max, alongside its earlier work on the Air Max 1.
