Nike had run a personalised Mercurial line for Cristiano Ronaldo for years. In the second half of 2019 it retired that arrangement and replaced it with Mercurial Dream Speed, abbreviated MDS on the boot itself, a series built around several players known for pace rather than one name.
The first release ran a predominantly blue upper marked with a repeating pattern, a reflective Swoosh, MDS and 001 branding, and a printed figure of 44.7 kilometres per hour, the recorded top speed of Kylian Mbappe. That number is the whole point of the exercise: the series sold speed as something measurable rather than as a style.
This is the Superfly 7 Elite, the collared, firm-ground version at the top of the Mercurial range, dated to the end of September 2019 at $295. Dream Speed ran for several further instalments before Nike closed the series out.
