Zegama-Aizkorri is a mountain race in the Basque Country with a reputation for punishing terrain, and Nike borrowed its name for the shoe that took ZoomX off the road for the first time. That foam is soft and unstable by nature, which is exactly the wrong quality on uneven ground, so the design works around it.
Rather than a full ZoomX midsole, the Zegama encases the foam inside a carrier of SR02, a softer Nike compound, which contains it laterally while leaving the rebound intact. Stack heights sit around 37mm at the heel and 33mm at the forefoot, and the last is noticeably wider than Nike's other trail shoes to let the foot spread over long days.
This women's Team Gold and Volt pair is dated to March 2023, within the first version's run, at $160. A second Zegama followed with Vibram traction, which tells you where the original's weak point was.
