Nike bought Converse in 2003, and this shoe is one of the clearest cases of the two sides of the business sharing parts. The canvas that has defined the All Star since 1917 is gone, replaced by Flyknit, the engineered single-piece knit Nike developed for running shoes, which lets support and stretch be woven into specific zones instead of being added as stitched overlays.
The payoff is a low-top that weighs less and flexes with the foot, with a neoprene-style lining at the collar and a Lunarlon foam insole doing the cushioning. Black dominates the upper, with Light Carbon grey worked through the knit as a heathered secondary tone and white on the rubber foxing stripe, toe cap and outsole so the shoe still reads as a Chuck at a glance. The All Star patch stays on the medial side. Converse listed it at $100.
