Reebok's running division has been quiet for years, but the Floatride Energy has held a following for one reason: it puts a genuine performance foam under a price most brands reserve for beginner shoes. The line has been the standing recommendation for someone starting to run who does not want to spend $160 finding out whether they will keep at it.
The fifth version, out in March 2023 at $110, is the one where Reebok added rather than trimmed. The Floatride Energy midsole grew in both width and height, a torsion plate went underneath for stability, and the upper was redesigned with roughly 30 percent recycled content plus a lateral support system.
Reviewers read it as a stable, lightweight daily trainer that handles long easy runs and the occasional faster stretch, with breathability and a narrow fit as the recurring complaints. Nobody called it the best shoe they ran in that year; several called it the best one at the money, which is exactly what this line exists to be. This black and grey pair came in September 2023.
