Scooter is a bright, slightly orange-leaning red, and here it covers the entire suede upper with no second colour competing for attention. The white liner, the white laces and the white leather stripe across the midfoot are the only breaks, and that three-piece contrast is the same formula Paul Van Doren used when he gave the model its sidestripe in 1977. A monochrome red pair is loud from the front and surprisingly restrained from the side, because the stripe splits the quarter into two smaller blocks.
It arrived in August 2018 at $65. Suede in a saturated red holds its tone far better than dyed canvas, which tends to bleach toward pink after a summer, and it takes a brush cleanly when the toe picks up dirt. Under the upper, the shoe runs the standard parts: padded collar, reinforced toe, metal eyelets and a vulcanised rubber midsole bonded to the waffle tread that gives the sole its grip.
