Mitchell's route to a signature shoe was not the standard one. He began high school at Canterbury in Connecticut, transferred to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire for his junior and senior years and won two prep national championships there, then spent two seasons at Louisville, taking first-team All-ACC honors as a sophomore before entering the 2017 draft. Adidas signed him that July, weeks after he was picked.
Two years later the brand gave him the D.O.N. Issue #1, and built the storytelling around exactly that climb rather than around a highlight reel. This October 2019 makeup runs metallic gold over a black textile upper, with the spider motif his nickname earned him worked into the tongue on both sides.
Underfoot it uses Bounce foam rather than Boost, which is the tell: at $100 the shoe was deliberately positioned below most signature basketball models of the period, aimed at the age group Mitchell had only recently left.
