The name is the shoe's whole brief. Red Apple is a New York nickname, and adidas built this pair around a single saturated red woven straight into the Primeknit upper rather than applied over it. Black accents keep the red from flattening out, and the laces are two-tone, one of the few places the design lets a second colour sit beside the first at full strength.
It is also one of the few pairs in the line to finish the outsole in a colour. Underneath the white Boost midsole and its matching TPU inserts, the rubber runs bright red, so the shoe closes the loop between upper and ground rather than resolving into white at the bottom as most releases in the family do. That decision is what makes the profile read as a single block of colour with a white band through the middle. It released on August 15, 2016 at $170, high for the silhouette in its first full year.
